Travel: Montage Los Cabos + Restaurant Favorites

We just got back, so I wanted to do a quick review while everything is fresh in my mind! We stayed at The Montage Los Cabos at the beginning of our trip, because it came highly recommended from a friend. It is totally different than the One and Only Palmilla which we typically stay at, so I was excited for something new!

The resort has a more modern, desert feel. It is clean and sleek, but yet warm all at the same time. It is also only a year old, so everything is sparkling and new.

The spa and fitness center is one of the best I have seen at a resort. I didn’t indulge in the spa, but Jon had a massage. The services are of course are very expensive, but top notch. I definitely enjoyed using the deluxe fitness center each day!

The resort has a lovely adult pool that is right on the ocean, and steps up from that is the large family pool. There is also a small zero entry pool for toddlers as well as a great sand area where the kids can play. We had a room that literally walked out to the family pool It was an ideal location, because we could go back to the room with ease, and hang out on our terrace while the kids played.

One thing that blew me away was the staff and the service. Granted it was a quiet time (summer is usually lower season for them) But, they really rolled out the red carpet for the kids. When we arrived they had a staff member from the Kids Club (paintbox) to welcome the kids as we checked in. As they were chatting, a staff member drove in a remote control truck with stuffed animals on the back that the kids could choose from! It was very sweet and a great surprise! They had a fun banner in our room with our names on it welcoming us. They also had blow ups in the pool for the kids, which they loved. Their little store called Paletas had homemade popsicles, was a favorite spot. They also had a truck that delivered complimentary poolside treats everyday.

Their kids club was phenomenal; one of the best the kids have been to. They made tie dye tee shirts, little pinatas, mexican treats and doughnuts. They asked to go back they liked it so much!!

The resort has beach access, and swimmable bay, but it is very rocky leading up to the sand. I do hope they fix that because it was impossible to walk on, even in sandals it hurt! It made it difficult to walk to and from the water so we only spent a little time there the first day. They offer complimentary snorkling as well at the resort. One other downside is that it is on a public beach, it is not completely private to the resort.

There are 2 restaurants on hand. One is Marea which overlooks the water. The meals here were incredible! Breakfast, lunch and dinner was great, with stunning ocean views. They also had live music on hand that was really spectacular. We danced and enjoyed every minute of it.

The other restaurant is Mezcal. It is a little more “fancy” but the food again was spectacular. I loved that they had so many healthy options not only for adults but for kids as well at both restaurants. Mezcal also has a great patio!

Their gift shop on hand is Eclectic Array and I absolutely fell in love with this store. They had local artists and designers, and surprisingly it was affordable! I found a few great pieces there. They also have children’s clothing and accessories.

We went off site 2 nights for dinner. We finally tried Flora Farms. It was a trek from our hotel, but it was fun for the kids. I would say the food was just ok, not great. But I loved the ambiance and the grounds.

We also went to Pedregal Resort. I made a mistake on our dinner reservations, but they accommodated us anyways which was kind of them. We were not able to eat at El Farraon on the cliff, but we ate at their main restaurant. The views were incredible, and the food was good (not great). But the kids loved sitting there watching the waves roll in. I definitely want to go back to their restaurant that is set up on the cliff.

If you go, I highly suggest using the Montage photography service, which is called studio Eminence. They did SUCH an incredible job in just 20 minutes. It was so hot that we didn’t make it to the beach to shoot, but I love what they captured right in the lobby of the resort.

If you are going to Cabo with adults or just on a trip with your husband I think that The Montage is amazing. I think it’s also great with kids! It is definitely more quiet than some resorts we have been to, but they were there to accommodate both families and adults, which is a huge plus in my book. I really look forward to getting back to the Montage sometime soon! Being that is such a quick flight from LAX, you can go for a quick weekend!
