After an extremely gloomy, rainy and cold March; the warm Arizona sun was just what the Dr. ordered! I was in a serious funk. I think I suffer from the winter blues, especially when we have had so many grey days lately! I came back from our vacation rejuvenated and re-energized.
We have been visiting my parents in Arizona for the past 12 years. The kids get SO excited for this trip each year, and frankly I do too! This year really felt like a “vacation” as the kids are so much easier now. I actually got to “lay out” and relax poolside which I don’t think I have done in about 5 years.
My dad is finally retiring for good this year; so I am excited for them to be able to spend more time there. It is gorgeous; the palm trees, cactus and mountains never get old! It seems like everyday is blue skies and sunshine.

My parents house is about 45 minutes from Scottsdale; and even though it is a hike we make a point to go into town at least a few nights for dinners or entertainment for the kids. We went to Dominick’s Steakhouse and it was amazing. It’s very chic, dark, but great service and amazing food. It is located in Scottsdale Quarter which also has great shopping and some other good restaurants.
the incredible bar at Dominick’s
We went to my favorite, The Mission which I have written about before. It is just SO good; the best Mexican food and margaritas I have ever had! I would suggest sitting outside on the back patio and make a reservation. It fills up quick…
It was Vivi’s birthday that night, so we got to sing Happy Birthday and she had Churros and a chocolate milk shake 🙂
Elderflower Paloma; I can’t tell you how good this was!
We took the kids to the new Odysea aquarium in Scottsdale. I have to say it was the biggest waste of $$$ for an “attraction”. The butterfly exhibit next door is actually better! Just a tip for any of you traveling to the area.
My mom is very artsy/craftsy so she always has a project for the kids. They made little cactus pots using rocks, which they painted green and added little white dots down them with a toothpick. They turned out really cute. It is an easy and inexpensive craft project to do at home
Vivi’s birthday was celebrated all week long! My mom went all out with the decor…
the little cactus lamps were from Marshall’s. I brought the Cactus plates and candles; both from Pink Antlers Studio in Park Place.
The best part of the trip was just relaxing by the pool. The kids had a blast swimming. Well, that and the tropical frozen lemonades they ordered everyday 🙂
It was SO hot and the sun was incredibly strong. We only lasted about 2-3 hours each day. We never leave home without our Health House hats, because they pack great and are lightweight. I will probably save this for another post, but I have found that we can only use all-natural sunscreen and natural products post sun. My kids skin is super sensitive too, and if we tried to use anything else on them they said it was stinging them. We fell in love with the new line of Coola products which I will write about at another time
We taught Vivi some partner stunts 🙂 And she wanted to do it ALL.DAY.LONG. This was my workout everyday…
Life is good when you are a kid on vacation!
This is where we spent Easter Sunday; it was pretty perfect
I can’t thank my parents enough for such a terrific week! They really make it special and fun for the kids. Each day the kids woke up and there was a note giving them a clue of where to find a little toy/gift. It’s little things like that they will remember for life!
It’s always hard to come home from a vacation, but I am grateful for the fun we had and the memories made!
