Style Scout Travels: Santa Monica Proper Hotel

I love nothing more than trying new places, and experiencing new things. So, when the Proper Hotel opened in Santa Monica, I couldn’t wait to check it out. It has been open for 2 months, and it is absolutely gorgeous!

With Kelly Wearstler in charge of design, you can imagine it is nothing short of fabulous. Neutrals take the lead in her decor, but the textures, curves and patterns steal the show. Every corner of the hotel has been thought through. Gorgeous plants of all sizes line the hotel lobby bar and rooftop. It is a mix of beachy, desert and Mediterranean vibes, and the energy throughout the space is really unlike any place I have stayed.

The Lobby restaurant and bar is STUNNING with the most eclectic mix of furniture and decor. I loved this library nook where you can work by day, and cocktail by night

The bar is a happening spot, so if you can’t stay at the hotel definitely come to the bar and have a drink! We had breakfast in the morning in the lobby restaurant and it was fabulous. Get the breakfast bread, because it is to die for!

The rooftop is a huge bonus. There is a pool (not large, but just enough!) on one half, along with tons of extra seating so even if you aren’t able to sit poolside you can still lounge and get some sun.

On the other half of the rooftop is a really wonderful Mediterranean inspired cuisine restaurant as well as another outdoor and indoor bar space

There are little seating areas throughout the rooftop that makes it feel more intimate and quiet. They did a great job about planning the seating throughout the entire space! Oh and if you love Mediterranean food (and healthier options) you will love the rooftop restaurant Calabra. I ordered this Meze plate 2 times because it was SO good and fresh

There are over 250 rooms on the property. There is an entire wing (off of the main building) that is full of rooms. It is a little spread out which is the only thing I did not love. But you can request the modern wing if you want to be close to the action. Also, the rooms are not huge (they reminded me of NYC size). But the bathrooms are spacious, with Aespop products and gorgeous robes by Parachute. There are high tech with window shades that close with the touch of a button. I loved the decor here as well, they really nailed it.

There were families with young kids at the pool, and staying there, there was a mix of all ages really. I would highly suggest it for an anniversary, birthday trip or a girls/guys weekend. You really can’t beat the amenities and the beautiful property. I am already looking forward to our next trip back to The Proper! It was the perfect way to celebrate Jon’s 40th!
