It is back to reality after an amazing weekend with my childhood and High School friends in California. One of the girls lives out there, and at our 20 year reunion we talked about taking a trip to visit her. What started as a text string with 4 of us at the end of December, ended up in a trip planned for all of us to go to California in early February to celebrate all of us turning 40. I love when things like that sort of fall in place at the last minute.
We all grew up in Apple Valley, Minnesota. The 5 of us were not all super close in high school, but I have a different connection with each of them. Over the past 10 years; with social media and 2 reunions we had all re-connected. It is fun knowing some of these girls since I was 6, and seeing everyone grow up, develop their careers, get married and have kids. We reminisced and laughed A LOT!
My friend Sarah lives in Pacific Palisades which is a gorgeous suburb nestled in between Santa Monica and Malibu. I loved exploring a new part of California. Normally when we visit, we are on the other side of LA in the South Bay.
The entire first day it rained..so we lunched and shopped in Malibu. Cafe Habana is delish! Their fish tacos and Grilled Corn are to die for..
Love this moment snapped of the girls 🙂 We got in some great shopping in Malibu! I now have some new favorite shops. Madison being one of them; more on those purchases in another post!
Friday night we ate at Nobu in Malibu. I am SO bummed it was raining because we weren’t able to sit outside on the patio which faces the ocean and has amazing views. But we made the most of it! Nobu is one of my all time favorites. I don’t think I have had better sushi in my life. One of our other High School friends lives in Manhattan Beach, so she met up with us for dinner.
Saturday the rain went away and we had sunshine! We went to Santa Monica for lunch at Ivy at the Shore. It is the girliest, shabby chic, ladies who lunch spot right on the water.
They give you a glass of champagne when you walk in the door. That’s my kind of place!
We shopped in Santa Monica and then walked through Pacific Palisades that afternoon. It just felt great to be outside in sunshine!
Saturday night we went out in Santa Monica to a place called The Misfit. Apparently this place is a hot spot. The night ended up being a little crazy as we waited almost 2 1/2 hours for a table! It made for some good laughs, and it definitely gave us time to catch up with 2 of our other friends who are now living in LA. We FINALLY got to eat dinner around 9:30! Their food was great; I would call it gourmet bar food. The burger with a fried egg on top was amazing!
Stef and Heather (the next two pics) are the longest childhood friends of mine. I had not seen Stef since High School! It was so great to laugh and hang with her again
Never a dull moment with these ladies
Sunday was another gorgeous day; we took advantage of the morning. We did a juice run and then walked to the beach. The juice Dr. in Palisades had wellness shots which came with an umbrella and a strawberry chaser. So cute!
Getting some energy out…I really forgot how hard a handstand is! I am thankful for the memories we made, the time to reconnect and to get away from it all with people that have known me the longest! We are already planning our next getaway!!!
