Our Weekend

We wrapped up another weekend, and it was a good one! Friday night Jon had a night out with some friends so I decided to take the kids to dinner. They are really at great ages, I can take them just about anywhere. And because they go out to dinner with us a lot, they have learned to sit still for an hour or two. I make them sit at the table and talk before dinner, and once they have eaten they can be allowed a device (if we decide to bring one). We don’t always, but sometimes its nice to have an adult conversation without being interrupted 20 times!

We ate at Il Centro, which has AMAZING pizza. They own Minsky’s, but they do their pizza completely different. Il Centro is one of the kids favorite, and ours as well. We always love supporting our small, neighborhood spots.Β

Saturday our son had a playdate, so we decided to take V ice skating for the first time at the rink in Park Place. I grew up in Minnesota, so Ice Skating was just something everyone did! I didn’t realize how hard it was to teach a little one to skate. She did great though; she never fell which I was very proud of. It was a good test run, and next time I want to go back with J too. You really need two sets of hands when teaching them to skate. Unless you are a pro at skating backwards, it’s easier with two people. The Park Place rink is a great place for beginners, they even offer 20 minute lessons right there on the spot for a small fee; well worth it in my opinion.

Saturday night we celebrated a good friends 30th Birthday! Oh to be 30 again!!!!

Today we tried out a new place for brunch. I kept hearing about how amazing Genessee Royale BistroΒ is. And…it really lived up to its standard! It is a quaint spot located in the west bottoms. There is really nothing around there, which makes it easy to get in and out of. If you are planning to go down antique shopping this would be a great spot to eat at beforehand.

I had the Soft Scrambled Eggs with Polenta and it was excellent. It was so flavorful, and a nice consistency. It was the perfect dish for brunch. The kids had the waffles which were equally as good!

and if you love a cocktail at brunch, you will love the Lillet Royale. A mix of Lillet, fresh squeezed grapefruit and soda. I cant wait to make this at home, it was so refreshing! (and I clearly need a manicure!)

Have a great week everyone!

  1. Such a great idea to let them have a device once they’ve eaten. We’ve been taking our 2 year old out to dinner so he learns table skills in public as well as at home and the concept of getting him to sit still after we’ve eaten is a struggle!!! Great idea to use the device AFTER they’ve eaten!
