Every year my best college friends and I get together. We either meet where one of the girls lives, or we pick a destination. I was so excited everyone agreed on LA for this years trip!
I love West Hollywood for a girls weekend. There is just enough to do; great bars and restaurants and shopping all within a short distance. It’s easy to get around, and you can really do a lot of walking and exploring. If the weather is nice enough, there are many rooftops and hotels with pools to take advantage of.
We stayed at the London West Hollywood. I wanted a place based on location and having a rooftop pool. I have also stayed at the London New York (which is also wonderful), so I knew it would be a good hotel. The rooftop is easily the best part of the hotel. We spent most of Saturday afternoon on the roof, soaking up the sun. Even though it was only 62 degrees, it felt amazing. I definitely want to go back when it is warm enough to actually lay out and swim.
When we checked in; we got an incredible upgrade (for the same nightly rate). They told us it would be a long wait since they were still cleaning the room, but they gave us each 2 drink vouchers for the bar. I thought that was amazing service and something they didn’t have to do. They put us in a 2 bedroom suite that was HUGE. We had 2 bedrooms with king beds, a kitchenette, sitting and family room and 2.5 baths. It was perfect for 5 girls. If you ever book there, ask for The Metropolitan Suite room 230.
Friday evening we had a reservation at Delilah which is about 10 min from The London. It’s a great restaurant that turns into a scene after dinner. Early on, from about 8-10:30 they have live singers that are usually really good. Then starting around 10:30 they have a DJ and burlesque dancers. It is very hard to get a reservation. They day they open reservations (usually 2 weeks in advance) you have to set your alarm for 12AM, or you will end up with the senior citizen reso (6:30 PM) like we had 🙂 It all worked out though, because we were able to sit in the booth for as long as we wanted. We stayed until about 10:30, and at that point we were so full that we decided to call it a night! The food is REALLY good, and the ambiance is perfect. It is like a retro dinner club. Definitely a place that you can dress up for, which is always fun! There are no photos allowed at the restaurant, but my friend snuck one…
We were laughing because we have really gotten to the point where we don’t need to have a huge night out. Plus, it is just not fun to be hungover! We much prefer to come home, put on our pajamas and have a drink back in our hotel room. But, if you do want a night out there are plenty of spots to hit up. Chateau Marmont, Sur, Pump, Tom Tom, The Sunset Tower Hotel Bar, Catch rooftop, Poppy, Harriet’s Rooftop, Employees Only, and EP/LP.
Saturday we (tried) to sleep in. You know how that goes when you are a mom and are used to waking up at 6:30AM! Then we went to brunch at Ysabel. The previous weekend I had gone to Ysabel for dinner and it was so amazing. I had heard their brunch was equally as good. We were blown away by the food and the service. Not to mention the great scene. There are twinkle lights everywhere, a GREAT patio, trees, and eclectic decor. This may be one of my favorite new spots to dine in LA.
After brunch we uber’d over to Melrose Place to shop. There are some amazing stores within a very small area, and it is a really charming and pretty area to walk around. Veronica Beard, Zimmermann, Violet Grey, Frame Denim, Mansu Gavriel, Golden Goose, and Glossier. Down the street from there are a huge Real Real store, Rag & Bone, lululemon, APC and The Great. You can always stop at Fig & Olive on Melrose for brunch or a cocktail!
I hit up the Glossier store to pick up some items that I have been hearing so much about. Forewarning; there is usually a long line to get in, and it is packed inside. But they are very efficient in helping you get your order and get out. They have little stations throughout the store to try their products before you buy. I will do a recap of item faves soon!
We then walked Melrose in the other direction to Reformation Vintage. I tried on 5 pairs of vintage jeans but couldn’t pull the trigger! I definitely need to go back and spend some time trying. The main Reformation is also on Melrose. Robertson is another street with some fun stores. There is also a Chacha Matcha, and The Henry which is great for brunch/lunch or dinner.
After lunch we went back to the hotel to enjoy some sunshine and a few afternoon cocktails 🙂
Because it wasn’t all that warm, the rooftop was pretty much empty. We about DIED when we spotted the entire band cast of Bohemian Rhapsody. All 4 guys were hanging and celebrating on the rooftop for hours. It was such a great celeb sighting the day before the Oscars! There were a bunch of people staying in our hotel, but we weren’t exactly sure who else was there. The only other person I do know is Gemma Chan from Crazy Rich Asians; because I saw pics on her instagram taken at the hotel. It was cool seeing all of the glam squads piling into the hotel Sunday morning. Being in Hollywood during Oscars weekend is definitely exciting. There is a different energy and vibe, and very fun to be able to experience.
Saturday night we went to Cecconi’s. It is a hollywood staple for incredible Italian food. I am also in love with their Eastern Standard Cocktail!
We had a truffle pizza, and a truffle tagliatelle that was out of this world! There isn’t a bad dish on the menu. Since we had SUCH a late dinner reso, we just went back to the hotel after dinner. One of the girls also had a 6AM flight back to Chicago so she didn’t want to be out too late. It really was the perfect ending to a fabulous weekend.
Other great restaurants to check out in Hollywood: Osteria Mozza, Laurel Hardware, Catch, Petit Taqueria, Republique, Gracias Madre.
If you have a sweet tooth hit up Milk Bar, Grom Gelato or Kith Ice Cream
If you want to be active in LA, there is EVERY workout you want to try. Rise Nation, Rumbl Boxing, Barry’s Bootcamp, Tracey Anderson, and fabulous Yoga, Barre, Pilates, etc. We did a Barry’s class with my friend Andrew on Friday in the South Bay which was so fun! You can also hike through the Hollywood Hills (which is still on my bucket list of things to do!)
And a HUGE thank you to my friends for making the trip to LA! Especially Jill who took a 6 hour flight form Miami!!! Love you girls, until next time!
