Keep + Add & Toss + Store: Fashion for the New Year

With a new year and especially a new decade, it is always a good time to clean out your closet. If you are ready for a fresh start, there is no better time than the present.

It is time to let things go that no longer serve you purpose or bring you joy. De cluttering is very therapeutic, and good for the soul. You won’t believe how much happier you will be without so much STUFF!!! When we lived in our little apartment for 2 years, it was my favorite time because our life was simplified. You can do the same! It will take purging, be able to part with things, and also making smarter purchases.

So, here is your cheat cheat for 2020. What you need to get rid of, what you should keep/store, and ideas of trends to add into your closet this season. You know I am a basics and mostly classic girl through and through, but it is always nice to add a bit of newness into your wardrobe each season!

Shoes AND Accessories:

KEEP/ADD TO YOUR CLOSET: white booties, bow details, snake and animal prints, combat and western inspired boots are still going forward, colorful boots, functional sandals, square toes, loafer style pumps, platforms, assymetric straps, and mary jane style shoes.

KEEP/ADD TO YOUR CLOSET: the “it bag” is making a comeback; Dior, fendi, and bottega veneta. If you have an old one, bring it back out of the dust bag! straw, and vintage inspired bags, large/oversized bags

TOSS OR STORE: ditch the dad sneakers, and store away your clear PVC shoes and bags ( I think they will be making a comeback!), donate any peep toe booties (those were out 3 years ago)

KEEP/ADD TO YOUR CLOSET: vintage, up cycled, or consciously made clothing is going to be more popular than ever. Help our environment by making smarter purchases! I like to shop resale at The Revury online, and vintage at Dear Society in KC and at Right Tribe in Manhattan Beach

KEEP/ADD TO YOUR CLOSET : Voluminous sleeves, tone on tone head to toe, all white looks and neutrals will be very strong, polka dots, tie dye, the tiny tee, retro floral prints, pleats, midi & maxi denim skirts, oversized blazers, billowy dresses, wide leg trousers, and colorful leather,, cardigans, tropical prints, and the essential trench coat.

KEEP/ADD TO YOUR CLOSET : Tangerine, neons, buttery yellows, pantone’s color of the year is “classic” blue, so you will see a lot of that, and a lot of great spring denim in all shades.

TOSS OR STORE: biker shorts, anything with shoulder cut outs,  tight and short dresses, super skinny denim (go more straight leg), plaid & camouflage seem classic, but I would say it is time to move on to something new.  If you were to keep one thing it camo, it would be a great camo jacket. You can still create a cute casual look without plaid and camouflage prints. Avoid anything too embellished; everything is much more clean and stream lined with not too much fuss.

for the new year remember, LESS is always MORE!
