Four Seasons St.Louis: Urban Oasis

A few weeks ago our family took a trip to St.Louis to stay at the Four Seasons, and to do some fun kid things in the quick 36 hours that we were there. We have always gone to St.Louis to visit family, but we have never done the whole “downtown” experience. It was a whirlwind, but we had a blast!

St.Louis is such a quick jaunt from Kansas City, that it is easy to do a short getaway. You can get there in under 4 hours if traffic is light. I also think it is fun to do a road trip once in a while. Pack the car up, get some good snacks and music and hit the road!

The Four Seasons hotel is right in the heart of downtown with exceptional views of the arch. It never gets old looking at that beautiful structure, which is like a work of art that graces the St.Louis skyline. The hotel has super clean, modern lines, which is perfect for its urban setting.

When we arrived the kids were greeted with a “toy wagon”; where they were able to choose a toy of choice. You better believe this won them over immediately!

And then this happened! Squeals of joy as we entered the room! The Four Seasons really rolled out the carpet for the kids πŸ™‚

And yes, there were treats for us too. A little bubbly and a butter cake that is to die for.

Our room had incredible views of the arch and the river

Their hotel beds are insane, in case you haven’t ever slept in one. I also need to figure out how to get my hands on one of their robes. They are delightful.

The hotel has one restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. They have kids menus which is always a plus. We enjoyed breakfast there each morning and it was perfect.

It was a little chilly the days that we were there, but the kids insisted on swimming. Their rooftop pool is beautiful and fun for both the kids and adults. We saw a lot of adult groups just hanging and cocktailing poolside. The cabanas are a great amenity as well.

Before we took the kids out and about, I squeezed in a spa appointment. Their spa is the BEST hidden gem in the hotel. I have been to a lot of spas around the country (The Kohler Spa in Wisconsin which is supposed to be one of the best in the US) and I thought this was better! I had a massage with LeNette that was out of this world. I was having really bad shoulder and neck pain and she alleviated it with the essential oils they use and using a special technique for muscle soreness. Their amenities are beautiful and relaxing. I wish I would have had more time to spend there, but we had stuff planned for the kids.

I snuck a few photos of the relaxation room, which also has great views. To see their spa menu click HERE.

The kids were dying to see the arch, so that was our first stop of the day. The arch is actually a short 10-15 minute walk from the hotel which was great. The concierge at the hotel also helped us purchase tickets, so we could just walk over and head on up to the arch. Vivi freaked out and decided it wasn’t for her so just Julian and I went up.

you can see the scale of it with Julian down below.

and the view from the top πŸ™‚

I lasted about 5 minutes up there! It was kind of freaky, but glad that I did it. Julian really loved the whole experience.

After lunch we came back to the hotel and the kids got to make their own gelato sundae in the hotel kitchen. They thought it was pretty cool getting a behind the scenes look. Later that day they also got to go back and make pizzas!

To burn off the sugar, we headed to the City Museum. I have heard amazing things about the museum from friends, and the kids could not wait to check it out. It also is only a 5 minute uber from the hotel, which made it very convenient.

There were crazy things to climb on, climb up, slide down, play on, etc. It’s pretty crazy and overwhelming (for a parent!) but SO fun for the kids. If you have a fear of heights, bring someone who will watch your kids because a lot of the fun stuff is up high. Β Oh and make sure your kids wear tennis shoes; I totally made that mistake by sending them in flip flops. We spent about 2.5 hours there which was just enough time.

After a long day of entertaining the kids, we decided it was time for some “mom and dad” time. We fed them their pizzas (that they made), grabbed the ipads (I had no shame in that game) and headed over to Vicia; St.Louis’ top new restaurant. Which was also named one of the best new restaurants in the country by Bon Appetit Magazine in 2017.

They are known as a farm to table restaurant, focusing mostly on vegetables. But you will find high quality, organic meat also on the menu. The restaurant has a modern farmhouse feel which is warm and serene.

These “build your own tacos” were so fresh and delicious. The shells were thinly sliced turnips. The sauces were in insane.

Jon and I both agreed it was the best meal we had in a REALLY long time. Thank you to Vicia for taking such good care of us, we had a wonderful meal! I can’t wait to go back!

It was the perfect finale to a fun, crazy, and amazing trip to St.Louis. A huge thanks to the Four Seasons for making it special and amazing for our family. They are still talking about it! I have a feeling we will be going back in the not to distant future.
