What to buy now: Denim

With denim being the most worn item in our closet; it is something we can justify splurging on. Denim fit and quality make a difference. They tend to hold their shape better, and will last for many years despite the number of wears and washings.

This season we are seeing a shift in denim to cleaner, less distressing and straighter legs. Skinny will always be around, but don’t be afraid to go straight or even wide leg for Spring.

I got these Citizens of Humanity Harlow High Rise Sculpt jeans at Clique boutique in Kansas City over Christmas. Tracy, the owner suggested them and the minute I tried them on I knew they were a winner. I am so tired of all my skinny jeans. I didn’t want super wide leg, so these were the perfect option. They are straight, with a clean wash, and pair well with just about anything. They are also a sculpt denim, and have great pockets which is a total butt lifter.

With straight leg denim, I feel that you do need a heel. I like them with a classic pump (like these) or a boot that is skinny around the ankle (like these). At the time of the shoot, all I had was these Chelsea boots which are ok, but I prefer something a bit skinnier around the ankle.

I think we have been wearing skinny jeans for SO many years now, it is nice to try something new! Here are some of my favorite straight leg/clean wash denim:
