Beauty: Fillers

I have always been very open and honest about the beauty treatments/procedures that I do. I started Botox last year right before I turned 40. I am sure some of you may disagree with it, or also wonder why I do botox when I try to be “all natural” with my beauty products. But, did you know that Botox is approved by the FDA, whereas there are no FDA restrictions on what goes into our makeup and skincare products?! According to the FDA “The law does not require cosmetic products and ingredients, except for color additives, to be approved by FDA before they go on the market”. Mind blowing right??

With that being said I feel much better about Botox injections and will continue to do it because it takes YEARS off your face! I am not sure if I believe in it being preventative. But people who have been doing it for a long time said it does work, and eventually you don’t have to get the shots anymore. Only time will tell for me!

Most recently I got fillers in my cheeks. It wasn’t something I planned to do, at all. I was asked by the ladies at Bare Medspa to be a “model” for their training on Voluma products. As I have gotten older, I do feel like my eyes are a little more sunken in. As you age, and if you lose weight you lose that plumpness in your face that makes you look younger and healthier. So, I was all for giving it a shot! I told them I wanted to go very conservative, and natural looking. Mandy who does my botox understands my end goal and is great when it comes to achieving a natural look.

They used about half a syringe on each side. I have high cheekbones to start (thank Dad!) So, there was not as much needed to be used on me. If you don’t have as much natural lift to begin with, you will need more. They shot Voluma at the top of my cheekbones. I am not going to lie, it was a bit uncomfortable, and it sounds a little bit like crackling as they shoot around the bones of your cheek. I bruise easily, and did have quite a bit of bruising on one side that lasted about 10 days.  (warning, scary no makeup pictures!!!)  I was also pretty swollen for the first few days.

If you are getting fillers or botox, you don’t want to take advil a few days in advance and you need to refrain from exercise 48 hours following a procedure.

But, in the end I LOVE the results. I feel like I got a natural lift, that doesn’t look overdone. Voluma is supposed to last 1.5-2 years depending on the individual. Which, I think makes it worth the investment!
